Clio- Dalian

Age: 22

Physical Profile:
Clio is a tall woman, 6'0" in height and weighing 160 lbs.; she has a lean, almost boyish build despite this. She keeps her platinum hair at shoulder length; her grey eyes and pale skin would make her seem ethereal or ghostly if she were much thinner. She would never be called beautiful, but her face is full of character.

Kingdom of Birth: Lavyndir (Father from Lavyndir, Mother from Bordeleau) 

Background:
Long before Clio was born, her father Kalane roamed the lands of Kirzlar as an itinerant Knight, seeking those in need of help. His last quest was to rescue a Bordeleau Lord's kidnapped daughter from the clutches of a rival. Though he succeeded in rescuing the fair Una Trelayne, he suffered a nearly mortal wound; during his convalescence, Una never once left the side of the valiant man who had saved her. The two of them fell in love, and Kalane wed Una with Lord Trelayne's blessings. Trelayne gave them a generous dowry, and the two returned home to Lavyndir to settle down. 

Not long after, Una gave birth to Clio. She had her father's build, but her mother's looks; while Clio would never be said to be beautiful, her face and form held a charm that surpassed mere appearance. Unfortunately Una did not weather the birthing process well, and remained quite fragile afterwards; she died when Clio was but five years old, and the loss shook the young girl deeply. Kalane did his best, but raising a daughter alone was very difficult for a man such as him. Ultimately, he was grateful when Clio asked to be sent to the Spire of Healing in her eleventh year. 

Clio demonstrated some talent in healing magic, and applied herself to her studies with fervor. Her mentors were rather disconcerted with the girl's fanatical devotion, but not surprised when Clio reached the rank of Apprentice by fifteen. She demanded to be allowed to take the Weilder's Test, and did so - failing miserably. Crushed, she withdrew into herself for a time, so unresponsive that her mentors began to think the Test has damaged her. 

In truth, Clio was filled with disappointment and self-loathing. She had striven to become a healer out of her still-raw grief at losing her mother, and her bitterness at her father's apparent inability to help. She had been taught that no magic could bring her mother back to life, but refusing to believe it, she pushed herself as hard as she could to find a way to do just that. Failing the Test drove home the folly of her quest, giving her little left to motivate her. 

Unable to reconcile her grief with her failure, she briefly considered suicide... but such an act went against her very nature, and she quailed at the turn her heart had brought her to. She ultimately sought guidance from the temple, and after many nights of prayer, she experienced a vision. In it, her mother came to her and comforted her, explaining all the things that, until now, Clio neither acknowledged or understood. With that vision came peace, and a new direction. 

Without attempting the Test a second time, Clio returned home and asked her father to give her martial training. Though Kalane initially balked at the task, he soon agreed and did his best to train her. At the age of twenty- two, he pronounced that she had learned all he had to teach her, and she was now worthy of being a Dalian... though she would have to earn that title. Clio left home with the best equipment her father could supply her with, and set out for Bordeleau, seeking the house of her grandfather with one goal in mind - to do her father's legacy proud by becoming a strong Dalian, serving others in need.

Personality Profile: 
Clio is hard-working and driven, striving to achieve her goals no matter how much effort it takes. She is also selfless nearly to the point of martyrdom, and sometimes has to be reminded that she is only one woman, and can not do everything for everyone. On a more personal level, she is friendly if somewhat shy, and very sympathetic. She is a good listener and a stalwart companion, trustworthy and kind. [Kiersey Temperament: ISFJ] 

Clio is very pious, spending at least a few minutes each day in prayer and tithing a portion of any money she earns to the temple. While she understands the concept of "the birds and the bees", she is somewhat prudish, and gets embarassed easily by romantic affections.

Skills & Abilities:
Clio is a skilled swordswoman, if limited in practical experience. She also has some experience in horse-riding, and a measure of non-magical medical training to supplement her healing magics. She is gifted with a green thumb, and loves tending to gardens. She is also a natural swimmer. 

Special Notes:
Clio has a full set of chainmail armour, though she usually leaves the helmet off, and a fine longsword that used to belong to her father. Her mount is a mottled grey warhorse named Boreal; he is a steady companion who would not balk at taking his rider into battle. 

Clio has attempted the Weilder's Test for Healing once, and failed. She has resolved not to attempt the Test a second time; while she does continue to practice her magical abilities on her own, her focus is on her martial training, not her magical training. Whether she would qualify as a Weilder through her experience in the field is another matter entirely.
