Aedan - Duke

Name: Aedan

Age: 26

Physical Profile:
Aedan's appearance reflects his mixed heritage. Standing at just over six feet, years of hunting, riding, and other outdoor activities have left with a lean but sturdy build. His dark coloring - fine, closely cropped blackish-brown hair, slightly tanned skin, intense dark gray eyes - and finely-carved, hawkish facial features add to an intimidating first impression that belies his actual personality. Aedan also has a few scars on his arms and upper torso as a result of hunting episodes and minor skirmishes.

Kingdom of Birth: Brinnyn

Background:
Aeden was the oldest child born to Alrion of Brinnyn and Ustila of the clan Tilan, one of the more powerful tribes of the
Roamers; the marriage of the Brinnynian king's second son and the chief of Tilan's firstborn daughter cemented the alliance formed
between the monarchs and the nomads. Two years later, his twin sisters Eliseth and Eilan were born, followed by another sister, Kestra,
four years later.  As the son of one of the princes of Brinnyn, Aedan had an easy life and was schooled as was appropriate to his station:
he was trained in the arts of war by master warriors and taught survival skills by the expert hunters of his homeland, and educated in the
arts and literature. Like the general population of Kirzlar, he was tested for magical abilities at the age of thirteen; because many members
of family were magically adept, it came as no surprise that Aedan did too. However, his training was put on hold when his parents decided
to foster him out to a family of his mother's clan. Over the next five years, he refined skills, learned more of mother's people, and saw much
of the world. The mountains of Radiair, the deserts of Orin, and many lakes of Lavyndir were amongst the many places he saw traveled to
with his nomadic foster parents. At the age of sixteen, he met Kanta, his foster-sister's cousin, and promptly fell head-over-heels in love
with her; she kept him at bay for about a year, until she realized she'd fallen for him too. They were inseparable until shortly before Aedan's
eighteenth birthday, when Kanta was killed in a skirmish with a rival clan. Upon Aedan's eighteenth birthday, his parents called him home.
As he was still a bit broken up over Kanta's death, he went willingly, almost eagerly. Since it was determined he had magical potential a
few years before, he left for Orin to study at the Fortress of Elements. After a very short time, it was established that he was adept at
Elemental magic, particularly with the element of Fire, but it was found that manipulating Air and Water taxed him greatly, both physically
and mentally. After attaining Elemental Wielder status, he was tested for Natural magic and traveled Radiair, the home of Nature's Keep.
He studied there to until he was ranked as an Intermediate. Aedan also has a very minor Fortelling gift that's never been detected, but it's
likely too weak for him to ever train for it even it was. It manifests itself in the form of the occasional semi-prophetic dream, though as a
rule, it rarely dawns on him to make a connection between the parallels of the previous night's dreams and a day's events. The main
reason Aedan left Nature's Keep so early was the death of his grandfather and the coronation of his uncle, Aereon. The final funeral rites
were held at the family's keep, Tier'dai, located about a day's ride away from the Brinnyn's capital city, while Aereon's coronation was to be
held in the capital. The family planned to ride to the capital in two groups; the first to leave was Aereon, Aedan, and Aedan's mother and
sisters, followed the next day by Aedan's father, Aereon's son Clellan, and the rest of the royal party. Aedan's group arrived in the capital
without incident and waited for the rest of the family. And waited. The next day, a single member of the second group arrived, severly
injured, and died there just after relaying the message that the group had been beseiged by a large group of bandits and were killed.
Aereon called off the coronation ceremony until the bodies were recovered and given proper funerals. When Aereon finally took the throne,
he named the eldest Duke of Brinnyn - Aedan - as his heir. After the coronation, Aedan escorted his mother to the Orin-Brinnyn border;
since her children were grown and her husband was dead, Ustila elected to spend her remaining years with the remaining members of the
clan Tilan. Aedan then recieved permission join the Brinnynian army; after infantry training, recieving an officer's commision, and serving
tour of duty, his uncle called him back to court, where he remains to this day.

Magical Affiliation:
Elemental - Wielder
Natural - Intermediate
Fortelling - Noviate 1

Personality Profile:
Aedan is an adrenaline junkie - he lives for thrill of the hunt, the sparks of conflict, and loves every moment it. With his aristocratic upbringing, he was raised to be the ideal noble gentleman and usually acts as such - he's usually tremendously loyal, friendly, sincere, and willing to go to extraordinary lengths to make a person happy. This is likely the reason he radiates a natural sense of leadership and gentility; it's also probably the reason why he also has quite a bit of the pride that makes him more than a little bit stubborn times.

Skills & Abilities:
Like many of natives of Brinnyn, Aeron is a master hunter - an expert shot with a bow and deadly with a spear. That combined with his time spent with his mother's people makes him quite capable of surviving without the benefits of civilization. He's trained in various styles of combat (armed and unarmed combat, fighting on horseback, etc.), though when it comes to weapons of war, unsurprising, not as good with a swords as he is with range weapons (i.e. bows, spears, etc.). As for non-martial skills, he's not a bad harpist.

Special Notes:
When Aedan was about seven years old, he fell into a large river and nearly drowned; as a result, he fears traveling over bodies of water like lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. He can barely swim, suffers from severe seasickness, and the thought of being in water over his head or in various types of boats usually makes him want to run and hide.
